Del Aziz, Clapham

Posted in Where to Eat & Drink Now

Del Aziz's latest offering has opened up in Clapham and we head down to see if it's Mediterranean food can tingle our taste buds.

I have to say it wasn't the easiest start to dinner, as we couldn't find the restaurant to start with but after a friendly local guided us their, we suddenly understood why we couldn't make our own way. The signage isn't very large and it is so dark that due to the lack of neighbouring establishments, you really have to search to find it.

As we walked through the door, we were greeted in the deli area and guided through to the back of the restaurant which is dressed in a very modern funky manner, but unfortunately on the night we were there there were hardly any people dining in the main restaurant. So the  lady walked us downstairs to the Zahara Bar which with its dimmed lights and Moroccan theme made us feel like we had been transported to warmer climes.

We sat down on a sofa with a big metal table in front of us, which immediately relaxed us but once presented with the vast menu we had to request a couple more tea lights so we could read it. We decided to have a selection of dishes to share rather than just one each, so we decided to have a couple of the starters and share a tagiine for main course.

We had some Baba Ganoush and Hummus to start with some flat bread both of which were very fresh and tasty, although we were conscious  not to eat to too much as we were waiting for our tagine to arrive. When it did, it came up the lamb shank smelt delicious and the apricots complimented the meat perfectly. As we ploughed our way through the saffron potatoes and couscous we realised there wasn't too much room left for much else to eat. But being the soliders were were we also managed to try a selection of the sorbets and the carrot cake from upstairs, which to be fair was a large enough slice to feed the five thousand but we still gave it a very good go.

Make sure that you head to the deli afterwards to have a look at all the little treats that they have there on offer.

Top Tip....if you want to carry on your night then you don't have to venture far, as you can just walk down the stairs to Zahara bar and have some cocktails over some live music.
