Luxury reigns supreme at Le Royal Luxembourg.
As you drive from the airport through the sprawling concrete jungle that is the suburbs of Luxembourg, it’s such a relief when you finally reach your destination. As you drive across the forge you’re treated to views of a quaint town. It makes you wonder that if you turn down the wrong street, you might bump into Gepetto crafting his wooden toys.
Whenever I visit Luxembourg there is only one hotel that I ever stay in and that is the Le Royal Luxembourg. It isn’t in the Leading Hotels of the World book for nothing! This 5 star hotel is just a short walking distance from the old town centre, where you can sample the delights of this picturesque, if not somewhat expensive town.
Walk through the doors and enter a clean lined lobby and prepare to be greeted by warm and friendly staff; on hand to help you with your baggage and help make the check in process as quick and as painless as possible.
The rooms are well sized and designed in a modern European style, which makes it easy to feel home at home. The furniture is elegant and there's internet access in all rooms (although this is quite pricey at €28 per day) to make sure that whether you're there for business or pleasure you need not miss a click. My favourite part of the room however, is the bathroom, where they are tiled from floor to ceiling; with large baths in the centre of the room it's the perfect place for a soak after a walk around the town centre.
There is a Piano Bar in the lobby of the hotel which is decorated in very dark wood but relaxing all the same; and if you're lucky you'll get to listen to the resident pianist play a few tunes while you sit down with a glass of wine or two.

There are two restaurants in the hotel. Le Jardin is the casual dining room or the La Pomme Cannelle, which is the Le Royal Luxembourg's formal dining area; both restaurants have beautiful food and waiters on hand to help you choose something different and to recommend you a fantastic bottle of wine. And of course, if you feel like relaxing and don’t want to venture far then there is an excellent room service menu.
Top Tip: Head over before Christmas to make the most of the markets and traditional goods.
